The Killington ski resort is preparing for the upcoming season with the latest in energy-efficient snowmaking equipment. The resort recently purchased 400 new snow guns in partnership with Efficiency Vermont, a group working for green initiatives within the state’s ski resorts.
Killington officials say the $2 million purchase will produce top quality snow while using a fraction of the energy. The low-energy guns will save the resort in diesel fuel and electricity, significantly reducing energy costs. The snowmaking guns are the latest in low-energy technology. Officials say the energy savings will amount to enough to power 1,500 homes.
