A 27-year-old woman was killed in a skiing accident at Burke Mountain in East Burke, VT. The accident happened Friday afternoon at Q Burke Mountain.

According to police, the 27-year-old woman exited the groomed portion of a trail on the upper portion of the mountain and struck a tree. After the woman did not meet up with the individual she was skiing with, ski patrol personnel were notified. The woman was located during a subsequent search; she was wearing a helmet, police said.

East Burke is in the Northeast Kingdom.

State police say the death appears to be accidental, though the investigation continues. An autopsy will be performed.
