According to a spokesperson with Vancouver’s Brain Injury Association, Canada does not have regulated testing for the safety of ski helmets. The standards for ski helmets are recommended, but only voluntary. However, the country does have regulations for lacrosse and hockey helmets.
The issue was raised when a teenage boy died in Toronto after an injury in the terrain park. The boy was wearing a helmet, which is required in the resort’s terrain park, but it is believed that some helmets sold in Canada go under no testing to ensure the safety of those who wear them.
