About 4,000 skiers and snowboarders enjoyed the last day of the 2010-2011 Colorado ski season on Independence Day, the last day of the season at Arapahoe Basin ski resort. It was the latest the resort has closed since 1997, when it kept running until Aug. 10. In 2003, the resort stayed open until July 2. It usually stays open until early June. Arapahoe Basin prides itself for opening early and closing late because of its elevation. The resort’s high point is 13,050 feet above sea level, which provides a definite advantage over the lower ski terrain.
