At about 8:25 a.m. Sunday, the ski season in Colorado kicked off with the opening of Arapahoe Basin Ski Area.  The Black Mountain Express lift started running to the top of the intermediate High Noon trail at mid-mountain.  The line on the one lift serving one run quickly reached 400 people.

This year the season began four days earlier than opening day last year.  In 2009 and 2010, Loveland opened the season; in 2011 on the first open area was Wolf Creek; and in 2012 A-Basin was first to open.  For A-Basin, Oct. 18 was slated to be opening day, but cooperative weather helped snowmaking operations lay an 18-inch base and move the date up.  Loveland plans to open Thursday, October 17th.
